Fiancé Visas
Fiancé Visas
K-1 visas are specifically designed for the fiancé(e)s of U.S. citizens who plan to marry within 90 days of entering the United States. This visa category enables couples to begin their lives together in the U.S. without delay. Minor children of K-1 visa holders may be eligible for K-2 visas as derivative beneficiaries, allowing the entire family to enter together.

To qualify for a K-1 visa, applicants must demonstrate:
- Legal capacity to marry under U.S. and foreign laws
- That they have met their U.S. citizen fiancé(e) in person within the two years prior to filing the petition (with certain exceptions)
- Admissibility to the U.S. or the ability to obtain necessary waivers for any grounds of inadmissibility
The K-3 visa facilitates the entry of spouses of U.S. citizens who are awaiting approval of their immigrant visa petitions. It allows spouses to live and work in the United States during the processing period. Minor children of K-3 visa holders may qualify for K-4 visas. Both K-3 and K-4 visas typically have validity of up to two years.
It is important to note that individuals admitted on a K visa cannot change to another nonimmigrant status without leaving the United States first, which requires careful planning.
